Fairtrade Fortnight

Here at English Tea Shop we’re pleased to join in celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight, which this year runs 22 September to 5 October.

Fairtrade stands for fairness, sustainability and community – an ethos close to our hearts. The model goes beyond fair pay, empowering producers to make decision that work for them, giving them a stronger voice in trade decisions and in long-term planning.

The annual Fairtrade Fortnight is a chance to celebrate the positive difference choosing Fairtrade makes and to campaign for the wider adoption of ethical commerce.

Brew It Fair

The Fairtrade Foundation has been working with the tea sector for 30 years.

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, it is encouraging people to host Brew It Fair tea parties and take part in fun campaigning activities. It has several online resources you can download, including event posters, a tea quiz and a petition to sign and send to your MP.

A campaign video on the Fairtrade Fortnight web page highlights how ethically paid tea production can drive rural development, access to education and female empowerment. It can also help communities to protect themselves from the impact of climate change.

English Tea Shop and Fairtrade

At English Tea Shop we set honest rates. Our 580 Fairtrade-certified farmers receive a guaranteed minimum price for their wares, so they’re protected from unpredictable market drops. This gives them peace of mind at each harvest.

In addition, every box of our tea contributes to a community fund which is used to improve the lives of the farmers we work with. From new tools to training programmes, we make sure they benefit from your brew.

We go further through initiatives like our Prajava (community) Wellbeing Programme, incorporating farmer development initiatives, such as beekeeping lessons, and the Parent & Child Benefit Scheme, which provides monthly social assistance for employees to invest in their children’s wellbeing.

In line with Fairtrade’s support for eco-friendly farming, our organic practices protect soil, biodiversity and important pollinators such as bees.

We’re pleased to say several of our tea blends are Fairtrade certified and carry the logo, and we’re working to increase the number.

Our aptly named Caring Moments set is comprised entirely of fairtrade blends. The tropical tastes of our White Tea, Passion Fruit and Coconut tea sit alongside three warming spice blends: Turmeric (Curcuma), Ginger & Lemongrass; Cinnamon, Moringa & Ginger; and Ceylon Cinnamon.

The beautifully packaged 32-tea bag set is perfect for giving as an awareness-raising gift this Fairtrade Fortnight or for serving at your own Brew It Fair tea party.
